View Finder is an interactive sculpture that references the history of the Great Park Site– The El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. Evocative of trailside wayfinding signage, this piece presents a series of cones pointing in various directions towards the landscape. As one peers into the oculus of each cone, images from the past come into focus– aerial views of the Marine Corps base, airplanes, Marines working, etc. These images provide vignettes of the site’s past overlaid onto the contemporary landscape. View Finder is an homage to the past within a contemporary framework. This floral colorful form is striking from afar, while offering a series of intimate experiences up close.View Finder is constructed of powder-coated aluminum with welded and high security machine-screw connections. This durable finish is designed to withstand the demands of this public environment. Each of six view cones present unique images from the Marine Corp Air Station. A round disc bearing the title View Finder sits on the top of the piece and invites viewer participation.
