Smith Lopez House
Site: Mount Washington, Los Angeles, CA
Designers: Jeanine Centuori and Russell Rock
Client: Marcella Smith, Mercedes and Pedro Lopez
This house design for an uphill site proposes a set of stacked volumes that take advantage of the steep hillside. Interaction between inside and outside is achieved with solids and voids forming an alternating rhythm of spatial volumes and covered balconies. Open space is used to maximize living areas within the strictures of the Mount Washington/Glassell Park Specific Plan. This minimal design uses exposed steel elements with a lively color pallet. The house incorporates an Accessory Dwelling Unit, rooftop deck with canyon views, and structured outdoor gardens.
