Coloring Book Plaza is a ground mural in the Pico Neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was created in collaboration with Sonny Ward of June Street Architecture for the Destination Pico neighborhood group. The floral pattern is inspired by coloring book illustrations. As such, it provides a scripted chalkable surface that welcomes children to participate. This otherwise neglected wide swath of sidewalk is filled with an activation piece that attracts families and pedestrians. The act of drawing within a larger framework artwork contributes to a sense of community participation.
