The art plan for this pedestrian mall space in downtown Redding, CA was intended to provide a vision for an ongoing series of art installations. This project celebrates the removal of the roof over the mall and the reintegration of this pedestrian space with the nearby urban fabric. The art plan indicates a series of media-based art projects that employ the sets of concrete columns that once supported the roof. These columnar groupings would become loci for unique art installations. The initial project utilized the columns for the creation of a shade structure. A schematic design for flowing bench elements and colored paving “bridges” between gaps in the benches seeks to tie the space together.
